VALE KATHLEEN (Kath) BAHR
9th February 1922 – 10th June 2015
Kath was born at Cullingral Station, Merriwa on 9th February, 1922. In 1926 her family moved to Jirrima, Gerogery where Kath was educated via Correspondence School. Her love of poetry developed during these formative years. This love produced a collection of poems written throughout her life.
Henty was where Kath and husband Oscar Bahr built their home and became part of the community. Kath took keen interest in and enjoyed being part of numerous community groups. Show steward, Girl Guide badge examiner, pony club, golf, bowls, meals on wheels, CWA, Probus, senior Citizens and Red Cross kept Kath busy and an active community member.
Kath enjoyed all sports but golf was her real favourite from the day she hit her first ball at Culcairn Golf Club. The next sixty years Kath continued chasing the little white ball. The Riverina Ladies Golf Association bestowed the honour of Life Member on Kath for her contribution to the game.
Life Member, Kath Bahr’s funeral was held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Henty on Tuesday 16th June followed by an internment at Henty Lawn Cemetery.

GOLF
This game of golf, indeed
I like it
It makes me mad, it makes me swear
It makes me tear my blooming hair
‘Tis the damndest game I do declare,
Yet, I like it.

I take the ball that’s new and white
I like it
I cut the cover out of sight
I like it
I hit the ball two sixty three
I toss me hat, I jump with glee
Then find it nestling up a tree
Still, I like it.

I miss a nifty six-inch putt
Do, I like it
So then I mutter, “dash” and “tut”
But I like it
I stop to have a friendly chat
I feel I’m quite a diplomat
I go right home and kick the cat
That’s golf. I hate it!!
